Publication Ethics
The Journal of Biosciences and Innovations (JBI) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics. We adhere to the guidelines set forth by leading academic and publishing organizations to ensure the integrity, quality, and transparency of all published research. Our goal is to maintain trust and credibility within the scientific community while promoting responsible publishing practices.
Key Elements of Publication Ethics:
-
Authorship and Contributions:
- Authorship Criteria: Only those who have made a substantial contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research should be listed as authors. All contributors who meet these criteria should be acknowledged as authors, and any other individuals who have contributed to the work in other ways (e.g., technical assistance) should be listed in the acknowledgment section.
- Author Responsibilities: Authors are responsible for the accuracy and integrity of their research. They must ensure that the manuscript is free of errors, properly cited, and represents original work. Authors must also disclose any conflicts of interest related to the research.
-
Conflicts of Interest:
- Authors must disclose any financial, personal, or professional conflicts of interest that may influence or bias their research, interpretations, or conclusions. These disclosures should be made during the submission process and are published along with the article.
- Reviewers and editors are also required to disclose conflicts of interest and should recuse themselves from the review process if they have any potential bias or competing interests related to the manuscript.
-
Peer Review Process:
- JBI follows a triple-blind peer review process to ensure fairness and impartiality in manuscript evaluation. Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive feedback and to maintain confidentiality.
- Reviewers must not use any unpublished information from manuscripts under review for personal or professional advantage. All peer reviews should focus on the quality and validity of the research rather than personal preferences.
-
Plagiarism and Ethical Conduct:
- JBI has a zero-tolerance policy for plagiarism and other forms of academic misconduct, including self-plagiarism, falsification of data, and fabrication of results. Manuscripts that show evidence of plagiarism or unethical conduct will be rejected or retracted.
- All manuscripts undergo plagiarism checks using advanced detection tools to ensure originality. Authors are required to ensure proper citation and attribution of all sources used in their research.
-
Data Sharing and Transparency:
- Authors are encouraged to provide transparent and complete data that support the conclusions of their research. Whenever possible, authors should make their data available in public repositories to enable other researchers to verify and build upon the findings.
- Any restrictions on data availability must be clearly stated, and authors should justify such restrictions (e.g., privacy concerns, proprietary data).
-
Human and Animal Rights:
- Research involving human subjects must comply with ethical standards, including obtaining informed consent from all participants. Authors must provide evidence of ethical approval from relevant institutions or ethics committees.
- Research involving animals must adhere to relevant guidelines and ensure that animals are treated humanely, with minimal harm. Ethical approval from an animal ethics committee must be provided.
-
Duplicate Submission and Redundant Publication:
- Authors must ensure that their manuscript is not being simultaneously submitted to other journals. Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals is considered unethical.
- Authors must also refrain from publishing the same research in multiple journals without proper citation and justification. Any prior publication must be disclosed during the submission process.
-
Corrections, Retractions, and Editorial Changes:
- Corrections: If an error or inaccuracy is discovered after publication, the authors are responsible for notifying the journal promptly. If necessary, a correction will be issued to ensure the integrity of the published record.
- Retractions: If significant issues are discovered with a published article, such as serious ethical violations or falsification of data, the article may be retracted. The reasons for the retraction will be published to maintain transparency.
- Editorial Changes: Any editorial changes (e.g., changes to authorship, title, or affiliations) after publication will be handled carefully and must be supported by appropriate documentation.
-
Respect for Intellectual Property:
- Authors must respect intellectual property rights and avoid any form of copyright infringement. Proper permissions must be obtained for the use of copyrighted materials (e.g., figures, tables, datasets).
- The journal will respect the intellectual property rights of authors and other contributors and will ensure that all published work is properly attributed and cited.
-
Ethical Editing and Publishing:
- Editors must act impartially and without bias during the review and publication process. They are responsible for making publication decisions based on the quality and significance of the research, not on personal or professional interests.
- Editors are expected to promote transparency, ethical conduct, and a fair process throughout the editorial cycle.
